Because this is a commission based off a previously existing image I decided not to grade 'Vision' as I normally would but, instead, considered it 'Composition'. Whereas 'Vision' implies some sort of artistic vision this is hard to accomplish when one must recreate something. So, in regards to composition, I find this piece to be very strong.
The aforementioned problem exists when considering 'Originality'; because the artist was asked to recreate something there is no opportunity to really make it their own. I decided on four stars instead of a neutral three stars because I feel like the artist used their style to their advantage: though their subject was predetermined the artist manipulated their media in their own unique way.
In regards to 'Technique' I was neutral because I thought there were a few elements that remained underdeveloped such as the metal netting behind the subject, the middle values in the subject's face, the subject's hair, etc. Although I thought the artist could have taken some license with these items, I was not privy to the original image and so I do not know the quality of the image. It could be that the original image was blurry and small, in which case, the artist did a miraculous job in creating what texture is present and supplementing values where there may have not been any.
As far as 'Impact' I split the difference between the composition and the technique because, ultimately, the composition is very well balanced but some darker values would have increased the work's overall impact.
